2006 Iowa Hay Expo

2006 Iowa Hay Expo
As part of my internship with Monsanto in the summer of 2006, I took pictures of field days, company test plots and various events across the Midwest. This is a picture of a demonstration at the 2006 Iowa Hay Expo in Manchester.

Experie

Monsanto Company

In the summer of 2006 I worked as a photography intern for Monsanto's Technology Development group. My responsibilities here included taking pictures of crops, insects, people, machinery and facilities related to Monsato. Co and archiving them in a database. As one of the first interns to hold this position, I had the unique opportunity to help design and implement a photo database that would make the pictures I captured easily accessible for users as well as providing necessary background information.

University of Missouri

While taking classes I worked for Professor Bill Allen, head of the Ag Journalism Department as an office assistant. As simple as this job may seem, it has opened up a world of opportunities for me. I am responsible for updating our students on available jobs and internships which enables me to always be aware of what is out there and quickly take advantage of new opportunities. I also coordinate all new and prospective student and alumni mailings as well as various other tasks. Through the completion of these responsibilities I have become familiar with various useful programs such as Excel, PhotoShop and PageMaker. I have also had the opportunity to gain some photography and video editing skills.

Brownfield Radio

Beginning in the summer of 2007, I worked for Brownfield Ag Radio, the largest agricultural news service in the world. I served as a promotions intern, working on projects to promote our company name to the community and media.

One of my major projects in the beginning was to coordinate presentations of Indiana Ag Youth Awards at county fairs across Indiana. One of our broadcasters, Dave Russell, attended county fairs across the state to award 4-H kids with belt buckles for outstanding achievement in 4-H. I worked with radio stations to see how many buckles there county would need and when they would be doing the presentation. I then ordered the belt buckles and coordinated the presentations for Dave. While at the fairs, Dave took pictures and got interviews with the belt buckle recipiants. I then posted these to a webpage, so take a look.

As the summer came to a close, I was asked to stay on as a promotions/news intern. This gave me the opportunity to really get my feet wet. In the month of October (National Pork Month FYI) I was asked to interview pork producers from across the Midwest on topics such as the industry economy and youth in the swine industry. The result was 12 stories broadcast in six states. The best part? They were voiced by your's truly. I hadn't had the opportunity to exercise my broadcasting voice very much over the summer, but this project let me see the stories through from start to finish. I found the producers, interviewed them, wrote and voiced the stories and then sent them to our affiliates. For these and other stories I wrote while at Brownfield, visit the Brownfield website and search Taryn Dameron.
